About Us

Angela is a 4th-year undergraduate student specializing in Statistics and Data Science at UCLA. She was responsible for several roles in this project such as Project Manager, Web Designer, and Content Developer.

As PM, she kept the team synchronized through every phase of development, ranging from preliminary dataset exploration to final website presentation. She attended and held meetings where humanistic questions were translated into testable hypotheses, tracked actionable progress, and ensured the team workload remained balanced and sustainable.

As Web Designer, Angela took ownership of how this project would be seen. She was involved in the creation of the WordPress site, selecting a theme that aligned Beyond Airbnb’s aesthetics with Airbnb’s, considering viewers’ ability to ergonomically navigate through, and designing the interactive and functional aspects of the site. She implemented intentional design choices that reflect her commitment to accessibility and clarity.

As Content Developer, Angela helped shape the story the website tells. She contributed to drafting and finalizing the questions, data descriptions, and bibliographical annotations, all while maintaining a humanistic lens. Her statistics background has equipped her with an understanding of how data has been historically framed—who wielded power to control narratives, what could be considered objective, and where silences in the dataset required acknowledgment.

For Angela, this project represented an opportunity to apply statistics and data science not toward typical scientific prediction or optimization, but toward interpretation. Aside from the humanistic perspective that she endeavored in pursuit of encapsulating, she also strengthened her soft skills of effective collaboration, expression, and most importantly, communication.

Kwanhee is a fourth-year undergraduate student at UCLA majoring in Statistics and Data Science. In this project, he contributed as a Data Specialist, Data Visualization Specialist, and Editor, supporting both the analytical and presentation sides of the team’s work.

As Data Specialist, he helped transform raw project data into a more analysis-ready foundation through data cleaning, variable review, and exploratory analysis. He also worked carefully to ensure that the team’s analytical direction remained consistent with project requirements and grounded in the available data.

As a Data Visualization Specialist, he developed and refined Tableau visualizations that strengthened how the team communicated patterns and findings. His approach emphasized readability, interpretability, and iterative improvement, reflecting both technical skill and a strong awareness of audience-centered design.

As an Editor, he strengthened the project’s written materials by improving the clarity, structure, and precision of analytical explanations, visualization descriptions, and final presentation text. His work helped make technical content more accessible, polished, and cohesive across the project.

For Kwanhee, this project was an opportunity to work at the intersection of data, communication, and interpretation. Through this experience, he strengthened his ability to navigate messy data, refine user-facing outputs, and contribute to collaborative work with both analytical rigor and clear communication.
